The Surrey Ion Beam Centre is a national facility available for UK researchers to apply for time through EPSRC and European grant applications. Access is also available on a commercial basis. See the information on gaining access on the main UKNIBC site or contact us at the links below and ask for more information or for a quotation.

Focused Ion Beams
Our two non-implant FIBs carry out a wide range of functions across several departments and partner laboratories
- The Ga and Xe machines complement each other offering a wide range of beam currents with the highest attainable resolution
- Generally the Ga machine is used with low beam currents down to 1pA and for features of a few micrometres and smaller
- The Xe machine can run at up to 1uA of beam current and with features up to 250um across
- The Xe machine can be used at low beam currents when the inert Xe ion is required, also as low as 1pA, but has a larger spot size making the very finest work tricky
